‘Keeping the customer database up to date saves money’

Section 6 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) requires companies to have and keep their customer database in order. Maintaining it in particular is often a challenge. People move to a different address, change their name, or even die. There are all sorts of reasons why details change. This is why keeping a customer database up-to-date can save a lot of money. CDDN provides useful tools, such as ongoing monitoring.

“Based on ongoing monitoring, companies automatically receive a signal as soon as a customer’s status at a particular address changes,” explains Martijn de Boer of CDDN. “This is automatically updated in their own database. With ongoing monitoring, CDDN keeps the data records of customers continuously up-to-date, for example in the online gambling market. Existing data is regularly validated for ‘PEP’, ‘moved’, ‘insolvent’ and ‘deceased’. CDDN regularly and fully automatically checks for changes in consumer data. In many cases, CDDN is also able to check – within the boundaries of applicable privacy laws and regulations – such information as family composition, residential environment, type of residence, energy label, date of construction and WOZ property value when a consumer takes out an insurance policy online.

This way, CDDN ensures that every customer database remains complete and up to date. Online monitoring is implemented in VerifyMe as well as in InsureMe and GameID.

“All providers of online services and services need to know exactly whether a customer is really who they say they are,” de Boer argues. “CDDN has a wide range of automated ways to perform essential checks. Moreover, we are a reliable Dutch partner that is familiar with the laws and regulations in the Netherlands.”

There are several public sources that record data concerning bankruptcies, suspensions of payment and debt restructuring for private persons, found in the local registers of various courts. With this information, CDDN clients can check whether the company they want to do business with has gone bankrupt or whether a customer is the subject of mandatory debt restructuring. CDDN’s insolvency and receivership check makes consulting these sources exceedingly simple.

The real-time insolvency check has been fully automated and can be implemented as a separate module. The check is also available as a supplement to the Know Your Customer (eKYC) package for optimal online customer identification. Furthermore, the check forms part of CDDN’s Basic Consumer Records for the continuous validation of customer data. CBR community members are immediately notified whenever there is a change in their customers’ data. This may also concern an address change or a notice of death, for example.
